Alright, let’s clear something up straight away—the Skateboard GB Pipeline Project has absolutely nothing to do with oil! Instead, it’s about something way cooler: skateboarding! Launched in August 2021, this initiative is all about spotting talented skaters across the UK and catapulting them onto the world stage. Now in its third successful year, the project is ramping up again with its latest round of selections that kicked off this past July.
So, what’s this project all about? Well, it kicked off back in August 2021 with a pretty ambitious goal: find the UK’s most talented skateboarders and give them a boost onto the global stage. Now, as we roll into its third year, the project is picking up speed with its latest round of selections that started up in July.
All summer, skaters have been hitting the streets and parks, recording their sickest tricks, and putting together 30-second edits that showcase their mad skills. The best part? Those who impress the judges get to join weekly coaching sessions at one of five ‘hub’ skateparks scattered across the country. It’s a golden chance for these young skaters to learn from the best and elevate their game.
A couple of weeks back, Skateboard GB finally announced this year’s lucky lineup, and let me just say, it’s pretty thrilling to see some local names making the cut! First up, we’ve got Ethan Birch , who’s no stranger to the local skate scene here. After watching him shred all summer at the BYC Skatepark and snatching up last year’s top spot in the Under 12s Survival of the Sickest, it’s no shocker he’s on the list.
Then there’s Ruby Dolan, who’s been making waves with her park skating. After landing a solid seventh in the nationals this year and making the vert ramp at Skaterham her own personal playground, she’s poised to take her skills even further on the Pipeline.
And let’s not forget about Giddy Parry-Laidler—the young gun of the group. Since landing a Route One sponsorship at last year’s Ramp Antics jam in Brighton, Giddy’s been popping up everywhere, even holding his own at the Level jam with pros like Isaac Miller and Rio O’Byrne.
Big congrats to all the skaters who’ve made it onto the Pipeline Project this year; your futures are looking bright! And for those who didn’t get on this time—just keep shredding and having fun. Remember, at the end of the day, skateboarding is all about the joy of the ride. Stay focused, keep enjoying what you do, and maybe next year, it’ll be your turn to shine on the Pipeline!
